ABOUT

Hi, I’m Jay.

I’m a SFF writer, TTRPG enthusiast, musician, and professional nerd living in the outermost Virginian sprawl of DC.

This site is a platform for my creative projects connected to my passion for sci-fi and fantasy. Today, this includes my writing, polyhedra-powered storytelling, and eventual podcasting. It also serves as the basecamp for my side quest of helping other creators with web stuff.

Backstory

Japheth Benfield, the first of his name, was hatched to human parents in the virginal waters of Genesee County, Michigan.

He emerged from childhood enfeebled by introversion, while suffering inescapable visibility due to his gangly frame. Mankind’s inability to pronounce his name led to the adoption of “Jay” to avoid the harsh spotlight of phonetic inquisition.

Music, guitar, and D&D were a balm for the moody despair that glommed Jay’s awkward teenage soul. What wasn’t remedied by Dr. Dre, minor pentatonics, and slaying kobolds, he satisfied through an unwavering devotion to shenanigans.

He became a dad shortly after high school and does not recommend this (seriously, 0 out of 5 stars). The lack and chaos of instantaneous adulthood left him and his young family circling the drain at the base of Maslow’s pyramid. During this doubleplus ungood time, Jay was given a unique opportunity that ultimately led to a Ludicrous Speed career that has spanned nearly three decades.

Today, he’s happily remarried to an amazing woman and has six awesome kids – four of whom can no longer be called “kids” and five of whom like him at any given time. He’s also the caretaker a ferocious Goldendoodle and a once-stray kittypet.
