Micah Fundraiser at Barley Naked

I make organized noise with a group of good friends. What started as occasional Saturday jam sessions following Bring Your Child To Work Year (a/k/a 2020), has become a thing. We’ve started playing out locally and have some great momentum.

We really wanted to do a fundraiser show for Micah, a local nonprofit that does invaluable work with those experiencing homelessness in our community. We had the gear, a few hours of bangers, and an open date in late April. What we didn’t have was a venue. Thankfully, that changed once we shared the concept with our friends at Barley Naked Brewing Company. They loved the idea and went all-in on promotion of the event.

On Sunday, April 27th,  serendipitously Virginia’s one nice day of the year, we played our guts out for a fantastic crowd and cause. Beyond the glorious catharsis of playing three hours of music, the positive vibes from the crowd, and the satisfying feels of supporting a cause much bigger than ourselves, we left the gig with the promise of two more – another at Barley and one at Red Dragon Brewery. Huzzah!

We’ve decided to do fundraisers like this several times a year. Pick a local charity, give them 100% of our proceeds, repeat. Whether overtly promoted as a fundraiser or not, we decided early on that every gig would have a cause attached – with a nonprofit getting a healthy chunk of dollars donated after each outing. We also donate our time playing pro bono for good causes. We did Go For Bo last year and just learned we’ll be doing it again later this year.
